Plot Summary
Alisa Vitta was
diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome and went on a journey to cure
herself, despite being told there was no cure. Frustrated by the lack of science
surrounding women’s health, she dedicated herself to finding out how women can
best support their bodies. WomanCode is full of information and gives
guidance on lifestyle changes women can make to heal their bodies. Irregular
periods, fertility issues, and depression are some of the symptoms that she
discusses. Rather than put a band-aid on these, she looks for the root cause.

Appeal
Pacing
In non-fiction, the
pace is set by the amount and type of information provided. WomanCode
presents a wealth of information and unfolds at a slightly slower pace to give
the reader time to soak in all the information. Vitta spends a lot of time
around each subject in order to give the relevant detail and explain them to
readers who are unfamiliar with the topic.
Characterization
Vitti is the main
character in her story. She takes the reader through her early life and events
that led to her discoveries.
Story Line
In non-fiction, the issues
being discussed are woven into the storyline. Vitti tells her story intertwined
with the facts she is presenting.
Detail
Details are given
through indexes, bibliographies, and lists of products and foods.
Learning / Experiencing
People read non-fiction
to learn something. In WomanCode, readers learn how to support their
bodies through food and lifestyle changes.
Language
Vitti uses evocative
language when talking about her experiences, but speaks clearly and with detail
when giving information.
Setting
The setting is not
important for the information being conveyed in this book, so Vitti does not
take up time describing the setting.
Tone
The tone of the book is
informational and urgent. Vitti uses her experiences and research to urge
readers to take action and make changes.

Hello,
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds fascinating. I know people who struggle with all the issues you brought up because of having PCOS. I am going to have to tell them about this book. Did you enjoy it?
Abby Abbott
I did! There was quite a bit of self-promo for her other products in it, but other than that it had some interesting information.
DeleteI was so excited to see this author! I am currently reading "In the Flo" and was recommended the book from a friend of mine. I find it very refreshing that you explicitly mention the sense of urgency noted in tone. I felt a similar tone from her other work, and personally find it inspiring and ready to make changes in my life.
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds super interesting! Great job on your annotation and full points!
